EFFECT OF RATE AND TIME OF POULTRY MANURE ON GROWTH AND YIELD OF JUTE MALLOW (Corchorus olitorius L.) IN SUDAN SAVANNAOF NIGERIA

This study was conducted at the Irrigation Research Farm of Federal University Dutsin-Ma, Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area, Katsina State during the dry seasons of 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 to evaluate the effect of rates and time of poultry manure application on the growth and yield of Jute mallow. The treatments consisted of five (5) rates of poultry manure at 0, 10, 15, 20 and 25 t/ha and three times of poultry manure application; 2 weeks before planting, 1 week before planting and at planting in a 6 x 3 factorial experiment fitted into a randomized complete block design (RCBD) replicated thrice. Data were collected on growth parameters like; plant height, number of leaves, number of branches, dry matter weight (g) and leafy yield kg ha-1. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) for all measurements was performed using SAS software package 2003 version. The results showed that application of poultry manure 25 t ha-1 had a better performance on growth and yield parameters like; plant height, number of leaves, number of branches, dry matter weight(g) and leafy yield kg ha-1 over other rates of poultry manure evaluated and time of application of poultry manure 2 weeks before planting resulted in a better performance in all growth: growth and yield parameters like; plant height, number of leaves, number of branches, dry matter weight(g) and leafy yield kg ha-1 and yield attributes over the other timings evaluated in this trial. A combination of 25 t ha-1 with application time (2) weeks before planting.
